As 35 people gradually assembled for the meeting, interim administrator Chuck Westin welcomed them and served refreshments.

The 2008 annual meeting of the Ellinwood District Hospital board convened at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 5. After approval of the minutes and financial report, the annual report was read to those assembled.

Board of Trustees member Beth Meyeres said more business is needed at the hospital. She added there is some stability in the clinic.

Dr. Chris Brown and Physician Assistant Liz Warman were introduced.

The election of Board of Trustees members was next on the agenda. Two members, Beth Meyeres and Lloyd Kurtz, were both running for reelection. Additonally, Marvin Sessler was nominated by those assebmled and he accepted the nomination. His spouse, Karen Sessler, was also nominated but she declined the nomination.

Pam Martin and Joyce Schulte acted as tellers. There were 32 who voted and those winning positions on the board were Lloyd Kurtz and Marvin Sessler.

Westin thanked the group and said he was proud of the turnout. He also said, "I have enjoyed knowing you folks, nice to see old friends. However, I do remember the reason I retired."

After a motion was made and approved to destroy the ballots, Meyeres appointed the new members to the board and then adjourned the meeting.

The next meeting will be May 19th at which time officers will be elected.

New hospital administrator Joyce Schulte said she would be starting her job on Monday, and "the door would be open."

Prior to the annual meeting, the Board of Trustees held a special meeting for the purpose of replacing Ms. Schulte as a Board of Trustees member. The remaining two years of her term became available after she accepted the hospital administrator's position.
 
Lloyd Kurtz suggested Jean Doll of Ellinwood. She was present and consented to fill the position. There was no dissent and Meyeres appointed Doll to the board.
