Decorated to look spacious with welcoming chairs in front of the fireplace, Community Bank appears to be a place to visit and relax while doing business.

Wildlife accents the large lounge area with bouquets of natural grasses on the tables and wildlife squares on the two large quilt wall hangings.

The Community Bank had a ribbon cutting on Monday, July 21, at 10 a.m. They are located 211 East Santa Fe in Ellinwood. Approximately 50 came to see the new structure, meet their hosts and much on goodies. Vice President Jim Bauer acted as host. He gave a short history saying the bank was chartered in 1906 and has been under the current management since 1997. The bank had $10 million in assets in 1997, but it has grown to $80 million with $50 million in loans.

It has rated well in the banking community being the only locally owned bank in Barton County to have earned an outstanding rating from the Community Reinvestment Act. The rating is a measurement of how well a bank serves its community. Community Bank has a main bank in Great Bend, with branch banks in Otis, Dillons in Great Bend and now the Ellinwood location. CEO of the bank is Richard Schenk with Steve Sell as President. Employed at the Ellinwood location are: Ashley Porter, Tammy Fish, Summer Wisman, Cody Clair, Alberta Sovereign and Jim Bauer.

The celebration will last all week. A special CD rate has been offered. On Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. hot dogs will be served. On Friday, some lucky person will receive a Traeger grill.

In this Aug. 23, 2008 file photo, an Afghan woman shouts anti-U.S. slogans in front of her destroyed home in Azizabad, the village in Shindand district of Herat province, Afghanistan. Disillusionment is widespread in Afghanistan, feeding an insurgency that has killed 195 foreign soldiers so far this year, 105 of them Americans. Afghans are deeply bitter about American and NATO forces because of errant bombs, heavy-handed searches and seizures and a sense that the foreigners do not understand their culture. (AP Photo/Fraidoon Pooyaa, File)AP - The bearded, turbaned men gather beneath a large, leafy tree in rural eastern Nangarhar province. When Malik Mohammed speaks on their behalf, his voice is soft but his words are harsh. Mohammed makes it clear that the tribal chiefs have lost all faith in both their own government and the foreign soldiers in their country.
